Students Support Staff Strikes campaign
The strike during the week of Aug 28 was highly active and engaged. Union members gained confidence from standing alongside their workmates, hearing stories from other departments, and stepping up to the microphone to tell others why our demands are so important. None of this would have been possible without the support of our students. From marquees to megaphones, the student solidarity campaign provided vital energy and resources throughout the week. We particularly thank the UMSU Environment Department for opening up their booked space on South Lawn so staff could rest, connect, and escape the rain!
The Melbourne University NTEU branch thanks the Students Support Staff Strikes campaign for their support and contributions during our strike
We recognise our common interest in improving working conditions and the quality of education
We extend our solidarity to the student campaign in their fight for smaller class sizes, retention of units, and ultimately for free tertiary education. Melbourne University NTEU branch commits itself to reciprocating the solidarity shown to us by students -- in the form of staff participation at student demonstrations, and/or by providing resources and equipment
