UniMelb Members' Meeting Votes to Prepare for Industrial Action

At a meeting attended by more than 200 NTEU UniMelb members yesterday, a motion was passed that put University of Melbourne management on notice that the NTEU branch is preparing for industrial action in semester 1 of 2023.

The motion stated that we cannot wait for real improvement in our working conditions, especially around:
- 80% secure work target
- Improved workloads
- Restrictions on rolling restructures
- A fair pay rise
- Flexible working arrangements
- Improved parental leave

As discussed at the meeting, management has missed deadline after deadline during this bargaining process, and we are not prepared to wait any longer. The branch will hold workplace meetings in the coming weeks to solicit ideas from members on the types of industrial action we think will move management to come to the bargaining table with serious proposals on our key issues.

We’ll then call another members’ meeting to vote on next steps in about two weeks.
