Strike Day 3 Wrap Up

Dolly Parton said, "If you don't like the road you're walking, start paving another one." Well, that’s exactly what NTEU members have been trying to do this week.

Dedicated members braved the elements to leaflet the library and 757, including some who had newly joined the union. Spirits were high when Wilma the cavoodle joined the picket. The Southbank contingent headed to University Square to listen to teach-ins delivered by Law before filling their bellies with constitutional Dahl at the Law Solidarity Sizzle.

Arts members nourished their minds with poetry readings, discussions of critical theory, debates about union strategy, radical printmaking workshops, teach-ins about labour rights, racism and French theory, and much more.

All groups then marched to Market Hall where they met others for the in-person Members Meeting. There, bargaining table chair Jacob Debets updated all about the recent pay offer, upcoming bargaining schedule and the formal dispute submitted earlier this week regarding disrupted teaching/learning.

The day closed with a screening of the iconic Dolly Parton movie 9 to 5.

Union membership continues to grow as University management continues to drag their feet. Compounded with an increasing cost of living crisis, it’s getting hard to “tumble out of bed and stumble to the kitchen, pour myself a cup of ambition”. We need a fair agreement now!
